Nestled in the Pyrenean foothills , this country home is the perfect retreat for those wishing to relax, unwind and chill out with family and friends. The house is situated in Ginoles les Bains, a small comune set in a luscious green valley a kilometre's walk from the small town of Quillan. With easy access to Carcassonne, Peripignan airports, this four double bed-roomed home is ideal for families and friends wishing to combine a love of food, history, nature, cycling, rambling, rafting or relaxing.

The House

The House

The house has been in the Thirlwall family for 20 years. It started off as a bit of a project but has long since grown into a much loved summer home enjoyed by family and friends. Its main structure is a large two storey house with private access, ample drive, front and rear gardens. It is set back off a quiet road that winds its way into the Pyrennean foothills circling the house with stunning mountain views.  Set in 3/4 acre of managed lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs, the house offers plenty of space to play and relax, in either sun or shade.

Stunning views surround the house which is set in 3/4 acre of managed lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs. At L10m by D5m and 1m deep, the swimming pool provides a cooling centre piece for family fun on those hot summer days. Adjacent outdoor BBQ and dining facilities provide useful shade, relaxation and refreshment, whereas loungers are available poolside for avid sun seekers.

The house is centrally heated and available all year around for guests. The pool is available from mid-June to mid-September. During winter months, the wood fire burner in the lounge is a cosy center- after bracing walks or cycles. There is a large kitchen fitted with a large Rangemaster oven where guests can prepare delicious food sourced from the local produce available in the many surrounding markets.

The Rooms

The house has four double bedrooms. It sleeps 8 adults and has two additional single beds in two of the rooms to suit a family up to 10 guests with children. One of the rooms has an en-suite shower and toilet facility. There is a separate family bathroom with bath/shower and toilet and an additional shower room with toilet which suits a busy house hold.

Garden

 

Both front and rear gardens are for your private use, providing space to play and unwind. At the front, there is space to run around and play badminton amongst fruit trees. A small stream borders the property as a route for the mountain streams through the village. The back garden houses the swimming pool, dining spaces and sun spots that are gated for your privacy. 

Pool

​

The pool measures 10m by 5m pool which suits family fun as well as exercise. It is maintained by a local chap ensuring it remains clean and safe at all times. Access to the pool is through a gate, that can be locked to limit access by young children and an alarm can also be set. The pool is mostly in the sun during the day with beautiful mountain views. 

Free Wifi

 

The house has free Wifi, the code for which can be found at the back of the Orange router in the main living room.

Dining alfresco or cosy nights in

 

Enjoying food and drink with great friends and stunning views is guaranteed with a choice of summer dining on the terrace, poolside or in the cosy indoors during the autumnal or winter months. Large tables seat 10-12 guests

Cooking

​

This agricultural region is rich in produce and well known for its delicious wines and hearty cuisine. The kitchen and outdoor BBQ are well equipped spaces to try out the local recipes such as rustic salads, cherry clafouitis or cassoulet. During the summer months, guests can pick fresh figs from the garden as delicious treats drizzled in local honey or creamy goats cheese.

Explore Outdoors

 

Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees along nature routes used by the Tour de France, there are amazing road, mountain biking  (Espace VTT) and trekking opportunities near the house. Lakes San Bertrand and Puivert as well as the river Aude are minutes drives away to enjoy more aquatic activities such as paddle-boarding or rafting. Further afield at 1.5 hours' drive is the Mediterranean coastline, famous for Wind-sports or Andorran ski-slopes.
