Morgan visit
As you may know, Malvern is the home of the Morgan car factory. Last week, we were lucky enough to visit it. I remember, several years ago, the 'Troubleshooter' Sir John Harvey-Jones visited Morgan and told them that they were doing it all wrong. Well, I think I know who had the last laugh on that one! Honda in Swindon have closed their factory for 4 months. Morgan is still going full tilt!
It felt strange as we entered the place. Wot, no security guard? No, we just walked straight in, paid our £5 a head and were free to look round.
The first place we saw, was, I thought, a museum. It turned out to be the place where they keep all their new cars prior to delivery! Each of the cars was different in colour and spec. and each had the name of its proud new owner on the windscreen. Morgan still has a waiting list of more than 2 years!
They do have a 'museum' with some famous Morgan models from the past. Surprisingly, it also had a prototype for a new fuel-cell based car, which shows that they are also thinking ahead.....
An incredible proportion of each car is made within the factory: the body of the classic Morgan is still made from wood and the metal body parts are created from sheet metal.
If you ever have a chance to go there I would strongly recommend it.
Changing the subject, my little sister, Val was 60 a week ago. The picture shows her admiring her golf ball dessert. (She also had a 'Scrabble' birthday cake!)
I am also including a photo that I took of my laptop when I was making a Skype call to Susie (and Louis, of course) in Washington DC. I was amazed at the quality of the video picture. Not bad considering that it is also free!!!
